John Huston, MBA
Mr. Huston, Chairman of the Board, is the founder
and manager of the Ohio TechAngel Funds, one of North
America’s largest angel groups. During his 30-year
commercial banking career, Mr. Huston held positions at five
banks in five states ranging from Chief Lending/Chief Credit
Officer to CEO. Over the last decade he has been an
active angel investor, and served as Chairman of the Angel
Capital Association, The Angel Capital Education Foundation,
and Vice Chairman of the Ohio Venture Capital Authority.
John Zak, MD, DMD, MBA
Dr. Zak is a Partner at Portal Capital. Prior to
joining Portal Capital he headed the healthcare division of
the regional boutique investment bank of Carleton Advisors.
Before entering the finance sector, Dr. Zak founded his own
surgical group practice specializing in facial
reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He grew that
organization to a multi-surgeon operation with three
stand-alone ambulatory surgery centers serving all of
Northeast Ohio. His practice was twice featured on the cover
of the entrepreneurial physician magazine, M.D. News.
Susan Luria, MBA
Ms.
Luria is a Vice President at BioEnterprise, a business
formation and acceleration initiative designed to grow
healthcare companies and commercialize bioscience
technologies. Since 2008, Ms. Luria has served a key role in
attracting over $44M in investment and bringing national
visibility to the region’s biomedical imaging sector. Prior
to her work at BioEnterprise, Ms. Luria held senior level
positions managing operations, mergers, acquisitions,
expansion activities and divestitures in both
venture-financed and publicly traded healthcare service
companies. She is an active partner in the North Coast Angel
Fund and close advisor to a number of early stage ventures.
Kyle W.H. Chan,
Ph.D.
Dr. Chan is currently the Chief Technology Officer
and Global Head of Translational Medicine at BioTheryX. Dr.
Chan has over 18 years of experience in physical and life
sciences that includes both drug discovery and diagnostics,
from a start-up diagnostic company (NovaDx) to a top five
biopharmaceutical company (Celgene), where he was the Senior
Director of Discovery Research.
